Where to even freaking begin. Since moving to North Carolina, all I have been able to think about is photographing in as many locations that are unique to this area as possible. Every time I take a drive, I am overwhelmed by abandoned farms, cotton fields, huuuuge antique barns (filled with antique treasures), dirt roads, and beaches. Beaches galore. I realized I had never done a stylized session on the beach before...so it seemed pretty obvious to take a 30 minute drive to Topsail Island for this shoot.
About a month or so ago, I had the awesome opportunity to meet up with a lovely lady, incredible makeup artist & hair-stylist, Ally Voshell of Allyson Wonderland Makeup Artistry. We got coffee and talked about our goals, what we've done and where we plan on taking our careers. Coincidentally, we had a lot in common and I knew I couldn't wait to collab with her! When the idea for this session came about, it was again, pretty obvious what I needed to do. I hit up my girl Ally, explained my ideas & she just got it. Nailed it, precisely. She doesn't get to do much of this down here, so she was pretty stoked when I asked for her help.
Juliet had the pleasure of modeling for us and oh myyyyyy she just gets better and better! She was the perfect fit for the whimsical & romantic feel we were going for. Plus, it was just too damn cool to see what a little makeup can do for this already gorgeous chick. Ally took my ideas and made them an even better reality. This was a dream team.
We hit the beach and I kid you not, the rest is history. I can't even remember. We had sooooo much fun. Laughing, running in the FREEZING water, screaming, laughing some more, our cheeks turning red from the cold air. It was pretty much 20-ish degrees on that beach. 20 degrees and empty. I had the best two ladies to work with who stuck it out with just huge grins on their faces the entire time. I would have started crying from how beautiful the images turned out, but I was afraid my tears would freeze. My heart is still bursting from that afternoon (I know I sound dramatic, but seriously). My favorite session, hands freaking down.
Sidenote: I had been pretty over the whole flower crown trend (I tend to run things into the ground when I get a new obsession or learn to do something new) but I knew I needed one for this. It just finalized the look. Enjoy!!
