CATHY AND JONATHAN- A MULTICULTURAL PRINCETON WEDDING

I think what I loved most about Cathy & Jon's wedding day was that I personally was able to witness the blending of two very different family backgrounds. It was about as traditional as a wedding can get, however, due to Cathy's Chinese background, the couple incorporated many Chinese traditions into the wedding day activities.

The other photographer, Ashlee Mintz, and I started off photographing both bridal prep and groom prep. I especially love when couples allot this time because it allows me time to get to know both the bride and groom, moments before they make the biggest commitment of their life! That time is precious and a lot can be learned in that short amount of time. The bride and groom are usually more comfortable around me once formal photo time rolls around.

After Cathy and Jon were finished getting ready, I took Jon over to the "first look" site. I think the photos I snapped of him anxiously waiting truly show the variety of emotions he was feeling moments before he saw Cathy. He was so excited!

We then spent about an hour with just Jon and Cathy taking some posed and un-posed formal photos. It is the absolute best when couples incorporate time before the wedding ceremony to take their formal photos...if I might add! This couple was so natural and graceful together. They truly made the other one glow. They were so easy to work with! When we finished the formals, we photographed just a (smidge) of Cathy's family whom had flown in all the way from China to be there! Next up was the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony where the bride and groom would share a cup of tea with all of their elders in the family. They then received gifts in little red envelopes from each of them. This was the sweetest thing to witness, especially when Jon's Grandmother, Aunts and Uncles participated. Two families sharing in one old and sacred tradition.

The rest of the evening continued as most weddings do; with a gorgeous, outdoor, sentimental ceremony. Only in this wedding, Cathy and Jon would be married by his mother. It was too sweet! The ceremony location was perfect, and Cathy & Jon were married just before the sun would begin setting.

Ashlee and I then photographed the bridal party just before the party would get started. Everyone was willing to pose and have fun with the couple. They were all a joy to work with! The evening would end with a vibrant reception filled with lots of dancing to a wonderfully talented live band.

It was truly a joy to be involved in such a beautiful wedding that, though full of traditional wedding events, was honestly all about love; the way it should be.
