LEARNING TO LOVE YOURSELF IS MORE THAN JUST “LEARNING TO LOVE YOURSELF.”

OCEANSIDE, CALIFORNIA BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER | 2024

No one walks into my studio or sends in their inquiry feeling like they are sure about booking a session. Every single person feels super nervous about being photographed or seeing themselves in photos.

But we all share one thing; we all want to learn to love ourselves.

How do we get to that point? Is it even a “place” or a “finish line”? Or is it a never ending journey?

In order to begin to get to a point of self-love or self-acceptance, we have to ask ourselves questions like, “where did I learn this?”, “when did it start?”, and “what thoughts and behaviors are contributing to me continuing to hate myself?

Maybe you learned it from your mom or grandmom or hear it from relatives. Maybe someone at school made fun of you or simply, you became more aware of your body. Maybe it was always visible at the supermarket on the cover of magazines; a reminder that your body will never be enough.

Society and capitalism wants us to hate ourselves.

If we hate ourselves, we will pay for the diet pills, the weightloss shot, the workout program. We’ll get the lip filler, the boob job, the liposuction, the fake tan, the false lashes, the skin treatments and botox. We’ll buy wigs or get hair plugs / extensions. We’ll change every ounce of our beautiful and unique DNA if it means we can feel accepted by society. How fucked is that? The beauty standards will continue to change and evolve and there will be new things to achieve or desire. It’s a never ending game, and the only ones always losing is us.

Maybe its not that deep for you. But for most people, it’s exhausting. And all that most people really want is to feel accepted and seen and to love themselves.

The thing is, the world and society will likely never actually change. We’re seeing and living it right now. We experienced a wave of body positivity and influencers promoting health at every size, anti-diet culture, and loving yourself as you are right now. And now, many of those same influencers are sharing about being on a GLP-1. Mixed messaging, am I right?"

That’s okay, because it starts with us. No one else.

The only way we can truly begin to see ourselves and love ourselves is by actually seeing ourselves and not just in a reflection of a mirror staring back at us.

The more we exist in photos, the more we train our brains to get comfortable seeing ourselves in other ways than just our one reflection.

Being photographed by a friend in my first boudoir session truly changed my life.

When I say “it was the first time I saw myself”, I mean that it was the first time I saw myself outside of a tainted reflection in a mirror, staring back at myself.

For the first time, I saw myself the way my friends, my family, my husband - all the people in my life saw me. And it inspired me to be photographed again and again. I liked what I saw. A joyful, happy, glowing person, not concerned with my stomach rolling or my arms being smooshed up against my body or my double chin from laughing.

The only way you can experience that is by allowing yourself to be photographed.

When you book a session with me, you will be led through the entire experience with love, care and respect for where you’re at in your journey.

A boudoir session can and will change your life if you allow it to. You deserve to accept and love yourself. Life is too short and the people (and animals) in our lives see us for all the ooey-gooey good stuff that make us up. Not just our body parts or flaws.
